I happen to like vegetables that look like they're from Mars. This one is particularly delightful. It looks like a cartoon character, but it's really refreshing and crisp and wholesome and healthy, and it's called kohlrabi. It has this big bulb and then these things that come out and the leaves at the end and you can eat it all, every bit of it. You can eat it raw, you can eat it steamed, you can eat it roasted, you can eat it shoved through a ricer and made into practical pudding.
I mean, it's just so good with so many things. And I feel kind of snobby about it cuz it's not very commonly seen. It's very strange to look at. It has a season kind of in the early summer and then in the fall again, and it gives you a crunch somewhere between, I don't know, jicama and a potato and a turnip and who knows what. Savoring Sonoma. I'm Clark Wolf for KRCB.
