Gleaning. It's not the result of a TV show where people break into song. Although, it's not a bad idea to break into song. Gleaning is ancient. It's when people come in, when the people in the community come into a farm or a forest or an area where there's a lot of food that maybe has been harvested, but there's more. There's leftovers.
And gleaning is an organizational kind of an effort that we have a lot here all over Sonoma County in the north of the county, in the center of the county, in the south of the the county. There are groups that glean. If you've never done it before, it's pretty hard work, but we have so much growing, blossoming, coming to ripeness that we need to gather it and we need to share it. We need to enjoy it for ourselves and for our neighbors, for those who need it and for those who love it.
Savoring Sonoma, I'm Clark Wolf for KRCB.
