If you think about it, almost everything could be salad. I mean, all you have to do is put it in a bowl, right? You need to have some green leaves and there are so many leaves at this time of the year. Basil is great in a salad. Sorrel, a little bit sour, a little bit tart, is delicious in a salad. I mean, little gems are wonderful as the base or romaine. Even iceberg, honestly, even iceberg, it's refreshing, it's crunchy, but you can put marinated tuna into a salad. You could put chickpea's into a salad.
You could put ancient grains into a salad. I mean, the idea of a salad doesn't have to be this kind of green thing that you grew up with as a kid with a bottle dressing, although some of the bottles have some pretty good dressing in them. I was once in a foreign country where I ordered a salad and it was a sliced sausage and one roasted pepper. We're lucky here. Have a salad. Savoring Sonoma, I'm Clark Wolf for KRCB.
