announced a shelter-in-place for Kuck Avenue and Monte Vista Lane.
As KRCB News has been reporting on-air late Tuesday afternoon, there was an active stand-off between a suspect and police in a small neighborhood west of Petaluma.
Sonoma County Sheriff's deputies closed off the neighborhood and issued a shelter in place for Kuck Lane and Monte Vista Lane in Petaluma due to that police activity just before 5pm on Tuesday.
The Sonoma County Sheriff's Office reports that they received a call about a man threatening to kill the caller, and dispatchers heard gunshots in the background.
Officers from the Petaluma Police Department and Sheriff's deputies responded to the scene, along with Henry-1, the Sheriff's helicopter. The caller and occupants of the property were rescued and taken to safety. Officers and deputies were then searching for the suspect.
The suspect apparently had several registered firearms. The Sheriff's Office Special Operations Unit was brought in to help with drone operations and hostage negotiations. A warrant was obtained and a search was done of the property that contained multiple buildings.
After multiple attempts to get the suspect to surrender, a flash-bang device was deployed just after 10pm and the suspect surrendered.
He was taken into custody and booked on felony charges at the Main Adult Detention Facility, and remains in custody on $30,000 bail.
Included in the shelter in place were Via Robles Court and Anglers Way. That's off Bodega Avenue...about half way between Petaluma and Two Rock.
Just before 6 p.m., KRCB's Noah Abrams was near the scene and reported a helicopter circling and police and fire personnel staged in the area.
"About a dozen Sonoma County Sheriff's deputies, Petaluma police and local fire vehicles are parked along about a quarter mile of Bodega Avenue west of Petaluma, while law enforcement officers respond to an apparent armed suspect who they're searching for in the area," Abrams reported. "Sonoma County Sheriff's Office's Henry-1 helicopter is circling overhead, but traffic is moving mostly normally on Bodega Avenue. Police have shut down Kuck Lane and Monte Vista Lane."
This is a developing story and we'll bring you more information as it becomes available.
